We were driving to Williams, Az. and decided to stop for lunch in Flagstaff. We had done some shopping before so were really hungry. Looking on Yelp, Yelper Soo used to go to the Golden Dragon in LA where we used to go and love. Since she gave this Golden Dragon 4 stars, I figured it would be good since I trusted her tastes! I also saw other really good reviews after the change in ownership back in 2010 but old low scores brought the overall score down.
The building is beautiful. It has golden dragons on each side of the entrance. The inside was also beautiful and very elegant. It's interesting that there is a large window so you can see the cooks working in the kitchen. It was fascinating to watch.
We were greeted immediately, shown to a table and given menus. Plural. There is an authentic Chinese menu and a more Chinese-American menu. We really would love to try more things but settled on the lunch menu since we still needed to get back on the road. We chose the Mongolian Beef and Chicken Chop Suey. They both came with soup, an egg roll and rice. The hot and sour and egg flower soup were very good. The egg roll was not a favorite even though the wrapper was very crispy but the inside veggies were a bit mushy. The Mongolian Beef and Chop Suey were very good. We would order off the menus next time.
I would definitely go back to Golden Dragon. Service was good, a large variety of choices and tasty food. I wish we had a place like this in my town! -

Came here on a recommendation from a store clerk nearby. Like others, I received two menus and had to ask what the difference was. The server said that the Chinese exchange students liked to order from one because it was more authentic and the other was Americanized. She did warn me that the authentic menu was spicier, i.e., hotter. Since I don't care for hot spices I ordered from the Americanized menu.
I got the lunch special. Mao Gao Gai Peng that came with fried rice (you can get white rice if you prefer), and egg drop soup. The soup was good but a bit bland. The rice was well done. The Mao Gao Gai Peng was beyond bland. It tasted like the whole thing was boiled and they forgot to add any spices. I doctored it up with some salt and soy sauce and that didn't help much.
Service was OK, and the prices were reasonable. But, not enough reason to come back. -

Unbelievably poor service!! Who delivers Chinese food to a customer in a hotel and forgets a fork and plate?!?!?!
I had to walk outside to a nearby restaurant to find a fork and a paper plate. Are you kidding me?!?!?!
The lady on the phone tells me the driver wont be back for 15 minutes then come back 15 minutes to my hotel!! Seriously????
You will never get my business even if I was stuck in Flagstaff and was dying from hunger!!!
If I could give you less then 1 star I would.
I WOULD FIRE YOUR DRIVER FOR BEING SO STUPID!!!! -

I've actually never eaten here. First time and I was excited they had rice noodles - my favorite. I was taken aback when I saw salt and pepper on the tables. That's a no-no in true Chinese culture but I guess one has to appeal to the mass. I requested spicy then had to request extra chili oil sauce. I had to add soy sauce to the Chow Fun sauce to get pass the blandness. Call me LA China Town spoil, call me ex-bf's Chinese mom's cooking spoil, you can also call me Chinese Food snob.
I'll return for a treat of Vegetable Chow Fun (it was okay after I added the soy sauce) and a side of cold sake. -

There was a good amount of snow in the mountains. Not enough for me to go sledding but I did enjoy grabbing handfuls of the fluffy and icy snow and made some snowballs. I thoroughly enjoyed our white Christmas. After our snow day Maggie's son led us to Golden Dragon. I loved Golden Dragon in Los Angeles so I looked forward to trying it in Flagstaff. This Golden Dragon is different in that they don't have dim sum in carts and it's not located in a Chinatown. It is pretty nice inside and you can watch the cooks cook.
Fried won ton strips were crunchy and had a delicious fried flavor.
Wor Won Ton soup was a mix of chicken, shrimp, and pork won tons. Won tons were very small and I would have liked a higher pork to won ton ratio as the strongest flavor was from the won ton wrapper. Chicken and shrimp were both tender and had nice flavors.
House special pan fried noodles had a delicious savory brown sauce and thin crunchy egg noodles. I loved the mix of flavors from the chicken, shrimp, and beef. Meats were all tender and full of flavor. This is one of the best pan fried noodles I've had in a while.
After lunch I admired the golden dragons at the entrance. Loved the details in the artwork. I'll have to visit again next time I'm in Flagstaff.
